Hi everyone !

My name is Amber and i’m so pleased to meet you all. Thanks for dropping by to read my blog πŸ™‚

When I first told people I was writing a blog, I always struggled to answer the simplest of questions ‘What’s it going to be about ?’ I came up with so many answers … Life, adventure, animals, mental health, creativity, unusual jobs, sexuality, the single woman, being child free … There were so many to choose from ! Eventually I had to narrow it down to this ..

Living an unconventional life filled with adventure, happiness, weirdness and a passion to inspire others to look beyond the ordinary and the well trodden path to create your own version of a magical life.

From a very young age I knew I was different, and it took me well into my 30’s to completely embrace all of me (including the weirdo parts). But it was whenΒ I turned 15 that I really came to understand why it is so important to be exactly who you are.

During my 15th year our family received the most horrific news no one ever deserves to hear.

Tallon .. My brother and son to the most loving parents, had been killed instantly in a car accident which had also claimed the life of another 17 year old boy.

I will talk about this in detail later on, but it’s the thought that ran through my mind about 6 months later that changed the course of my life forever.

I had no idea how to deal with Tallon’s death at the time. But what I did know was this … I was going to live my life for both of us. I was going to experience as much as I could, however I could. I was going to squeeze every single drop out of this existence. And I have. And I do. I hope you do too ?

I was forced very early on to see that everything in life is Impermanent (Anicca) but from this knowledge came a greater urgency to put on my big girls pants and get on with it all.

Now please don’t go thinking this is some fairy tale / Disney story (More on Disney later) Life needs a good kick in the nuts most days (and i’m happy to be the one kicking) It really can be aΒ scary, revolting, shitty, fucked up, overrated and stinky hell hole. But hey, that’s part of it and that’s what makes us all unique. I now embrace it all.

It has at times been my greatest struggle to be ‘different’ and i’m sure many people who read this, feel exactly the same.

My hope is that more people in this world take up the opportunity to really live and thrive. You may not have the confidence yet, but one day, you could be riding a donkey in Antarctica,Β nude whilst blowing bubbles (Hmmm one for the future !!)

So, if you want to know what this blog is about … Here you go !

It’s about life …It’s about Travel…It’s about adventure … It’s about being unique.

It’s about Buddhism … It’s about mental health issues .. It’s about being a woman.

It’s about the single life …. It’s about crazy jobs and career choices … Its about love/hate.

It’s about nature … Animals .. Wildlife .. Conservation .. zoo’s.

It’s about reality TV … Shaking your butt in feathers … pretending to be an actor.

It’s about overcoming obstacles .. Suffocating in suit characters … Ageing !

But most of all, it’s about asking ourselves if we are really living life exactly how we choose, not how we are taught ?

Why is it called Monkeying around ? Well, you’ll have to read more, but lets just say my life has been filed with monks, monkeys and plenty of monkeying around the world.

Peace, love and mung beans (I hate mung beans)

  2. Hi Amber and welcome to blogging. Your posts indicate a very interesting and fascinating take on life. Looking forward to more. I’m curious as to why you picked my blog to follow, although I am very pleased you did. As an agnostic, I am quite interested in Buddhism, but finally I am at spiritual peace after many years of wondering and “faking it” as a Christian. I think Obi Wan Kanobi had it about right. “The Force” is with us.” See you in the blogosphere!

    • Hi Al ! Thanks for your message. I appreciate it πŸ™‚
I like to add people who are different to me. I like other people’s opinions !
My blog will only have a small part about Buddhism and the rest about unconventional lives πŸ™‚

  3. I’ll take the peace and love, thanks πŸ™‚ You can keep the mung beans……. So happy to welcome you to Soul Gifts family. Love your photo on this page by the way.

  4. Glad to have cme aross you.I can completely understand how it feels to be different, the only difference between you and me is that you have started enjoying your weirdness and I am still struggling.I also agree with you that it the strange wierd people that actually make discoveries and effectuate a change!
Can I ask you a personal question if you don’t mind that why do you choose to remain single!?Asking, just to know if your views match with mine.

    • Of course I don’t mind.
It has taken me MANY years to embrace who I am but I am finally at peace and couldn’t think of anything worse than being ‘normal’.
If I met the right man, id definitely consider it but most men want me to ‘settle’ or to become a woman who takes care of them and stops travelling. Being single is my last struggle.
Can I ask about you ?
Do you feel like you don’t fit in ?
